100 Things About Me

It’s so much fun learning things about the people you know or about people you’d like to know better! A few years ago, I wrote a blog post telling 100 things about myself that my online friends (and some of my in-real-life friends) might not know. I really had a good time writing that post, and several blogging friends enjoyed writing similar posts for their blogs too. Since it’s been so long, I thought it might be fun to do it again! And for those of you who blog and would like to join in, I would love for you to leave links to your “100 Things About Me” posts in my comments so I can read yours too!

Oh, and there’s only 1 really important rule! The 100 things you list have to be about you personally! Not about your kids or your husband, etc. But you can do it, and it’s really lots of fun!

  1. I am an identical twin. (In fact, I wish everyone was blessed enough to have a twin sister or brother!)
  2. I had never owned a dog in my entire life until I rescued a little dog that had been hit by a car and badly injured almost 2 years ago. Now that little dog is the princess in the family, and I totally adore her!
  3. I eat gluten free. And I never cheat. Ever. (Because gluten causes my TMJ to flare up and I’ll be in pain for days if I cheat.)
  4. I recently decided I wanted to start exercising and get in better shape, so I now work out 3 or 4 times a week. I feel SO much better already!
  5. I used to be a school teacher until my oldest child was born. I’ve now been a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom for almost 20 years.
  6. I am a terrible procrastinator. Really terrible…
  7. I love to read. In particular, I enjoy reading young adult fiction because it’s usually fun.
  8. I occasionally read non-fiction books, but not very often. It’s not that I don’t enjoy non-fiction. It’s just that, I usually read just for fun and to relax and take a break, so fictional books meet that need better than non-fiction.
  9.  I am a people person. I love people!
  10. Even though I’m a people person, I enjoy being with small groups of people and getting to know them well rather than having lots and lots of friends that I only know casually.
  11. I am one of three co-owners of the Hip Homeschool Moms website. I handle most of the content such as receiving, editing, and scheduling posts from the HHM team members. I also write for HHM myself and help out with other jobs as needed. I LOVE what I do, and I have some wonderful co-owners (Trish of Live and Learn Farm and Leann of The Hands-on Homeschooler) and team members!
  12. When we built our house 7 years ago, I was the contractor. It was a very difficult job, but I did it! (And I hope I never have to do it again!)
  13. I wish I could sew, but I’m not very good at it. I hope to take sewing lessons one day and learn how to sew and really follow a pattern and that sort of thing.
  14. Even though I’m not good at sewing, I love hand quilting! I’ve done several quilts, and I’m happy with how they’ve turned out.
  15. I’m not a very patient person.
  16. My hair has always been straight until the birth of my youngest child (now age 12). After that, my hair has gotten fairly wavy. But I still sometimes blow dry it straight.
  17. I enjoy cooking (most of the time), but I hate cleaning the kitchen.
  18. I actually don’t enjoy housework much at all. But my other un-favorites are vacuuming and laundry.
  19. I was not in good health for years until I began seeing a doctor who does health and wellness testing, supplements, etc. Since I began seeing her almost 2 years ago, I feel better than I did for the last quite-a-few years!
  20. I don’t usually enjoy shopping for clothing (or anything else). I do enjoy it once in a while when a friend can go with me and when I have money to spend, but the rest of time I just don’t enjoy it very much.
  21. I don’t watch much television. There are just so many other things I’d rather be doing!
  22. I do enjoy listening to music. I especially love music from the 70s and 80s. I also enjoy Christian music.
  23. I hope one day to run at least a half marathon. I have terrible trouble with shin splints, so I’m not sure if it’ll ever happen, but I hope it will!
  24. I have childhood memories that may have happened to me or to my twin sister–neither of us can remember which of us the memory actually belongs to. (For example: One of us stuck out our tongue and poured a bucket of sand over our own head. Not very smart. But we can’t remember if it was my twin sis who did it or if it was me who did it!)
  25. From the time I was 15 years old, I worked part-time and went to high school.
  26. I worked all through college too, but I worked full time and went to school full time during those years. It wasn’t easy, but I did it!
  27. My husband and I got married at age 20.
  28. After we got married, we completed our bachelor’s degress and master’s degrees. It was really great because we didn’t have to schedule time to see each other.
  29. I have a degree in elementary education, but I only taught for 2 years before my first child was born.
  30. When I need to go grocery shopping and don’t have much on hand to cook with, I make up recipes and throw things together. Sometimes it turns out great! Other times it turns out not so great.
  31. I live in the South, and I love it here!
  32. I wear shorts, flip flops, and t-shirts most of the year.
  33. I enjoy playing trivia games even though I’m not that great at them.
  34. I can play the piano, and I enjoy it even though I don’t make a lot of time for it.
  35. I love to plant herbs every spring and summer.
  36. My favorite herbs to grown each summer are basil, oregano, lemon thyme, and sweet mint.
  37. I attempt to grown tomatoes each summer, but they never do well. Every spring, though, I plant more hoping that this will be the year they grow well! Maybe one day they will.
  38. I use fluoride free toothpaste.
  39. I use aluminum free deodorant.
  40. I prefer organic produce if at all possible.
  41. I don’t go out to eat very often.
  42. I love drawing! I’ve never been good at painting, though. But that’s ok.
  43. I also enjoy crafting.
  44. I love for my house to be organized, but I have lots of trouble getting it and keeping it that way!
  45. I started out as a very strict school-at-home kind of homeschooling mom, but over the years I’ve relaxed a lot more! Homeschooling is usually a lot of fun now!
  46. I never enjoyed history in school–whether high school or college. Now, though, it’s my very favorite homeschool subject!
  47. I’m not good at math. In fact, I acquired my husband because he was great at high school math and I was not. 😉
  48. I often talk too much.
  49. I re-wear many of my clothes instead of washing them after every wearing. Especially my jeans.
  50. I have frequent headaches. I’ve had them all my life. They are definitely fewer and less severe, though, since I started eating gluten free because many of them were from inflammation/TMJ.
  51. I’ve been eating gluten free for about 1 1/2 years now. I started eating GF in December of 2013. My twin sister had been telling me for a year or two that my TMJ would be much better if I would eat GF, but I chose not to believe her because eating GF seemed too hard. On December 10, 2013, I woke up one morning (with a severe TMJ headache), and decided that I was going GF beginning that day. I haven’t eaten gluten since then.
  52. I’m a procrastinator, but once I make up my mind to do something, I want it done yesterday.
  53. If I’m ever talking to you about my childhood, I almost always use the word “we” instead of “I” or “me.” This is because, growing up with a twin, I never thought of myself as just myself. Instead, I thought of myself as part of a set. 🙂
  54. In 1994, I started keeping a list of books that I read each year. I still keep that list today.
  55. I’m part of a snail mail group that sends actual snail mail letters to each other! I try to write to the other ladies in the group once a month, but sometimes it ends up being every other month instead.
  56. I enjoy making my own stationery and pretty envelopes. I don’t do it often, but I do enjoy it once in a while.
  57. I’m saving money and preparing to go on a mission trip to Peru this summer with my family!
  58. I’ve never been on a mission trip before! This will be my very first one.
  59. I was born in the country of Panama because my dad was in the Army.
  60. I’ve been to 3 countries so far in my life. The United States, Panama, and Mexico.
  61. I’m not a good swimmer.
  62. I do enjoy going places, but I truly do enjoy just staying at home too. I don’t feel the need to always be going somewhere. In fact, I often stay busier than I’d really like to be.
  63. I love, as Winnie the Pooh would say, blustery days! Especially when I don’t have to get out in them but can stay cozy and warm in my house and watch the wind and rain out the window.
  64. I don’t love the short days in the winter, but I don’t get depressed because of them either.
  65. I usually get up each morning around 7:30 a.m. Sometimes a little earlier, but no earlier than 7:00 unless somebody has an early appointment or something like that.
  66. I usually go to bed each evening around 11:00. I sometimes try to get to bed earlier, but there’s always so much to do that it’s difficult!
  67. Even though I don’t love to watch television most of the time, I do enjoy sitting down with my husband some evenings to watch an episode of whatever series we’re currently watching together. (We love Netflix!)
  68. Besides our little indoor dog, Callie Sue, I also adore out two indoor cats. Hazel is our grouchy kitty, and Henry is our mischievous kitty. Henry and Callie Sue are best buddies.
  69. I gave away our two parakeets because I got tired of cleaning their cage.
  70. I set our beta fish free in the pond because I got tired of cleaning his cage. I like to think that he lived happily ever after instead of becoming fish or turtle food.
  71. I take care of the flower beds in my yard, but I don’t generally love yard work.
  72. I do not love meal planning, but if I don’t do it, I’m not very good at having dinner ready each evening.
  73. I’m pretty good at taking what I have in the freezer and the pantry and making a meal out of it. It may be something strange, but I can usually come up with something!
  74. My favorite colors are pink, orange, and yellow.
  75. I make my bed every single day after I get up.
  76. I get along very well with my husband. We’ve had some difficult times, but we’ve worked through them and remained happily married for nearly 24 years.
  77. I like to sing, but I’m not especially good at it.
  78. I love to sing little “clips” of songs when somebody says something that reminds me of a particular song. This drives my kids crazy.
  79. I never thought I would ever be a writer. My sister was always the one who was able to write and express herself so well or tell a really good story. Yet here I am. A writer. 🙂
  80. My husband and I are pretty much opposites in many ways. He’s calm, collected, logical, and reasonable. I do like to have a general plan for what I need to do and when, but other than that I’m a rather ADD, emotional, can’t remember anything if  don’t write it down, try-to-be-organized-but-I’m-really-not kind of person.
  81. My sister and I are not allowed to be on the same team when we play games–especially Pictionary. I guess we have a “twin advantage.” We know how the other one thinks, and we are hard to beat!
  82. I’ve always loved cats–ever since I was a little child. I never had any idea how much I would love dogs until we took in our little dog almost 2 years ago. I had no idea what I was missing!
  83. For a while when my son was around 6 or 8, we had Madagascar hissing cockroach for pets. I was the only one in the house who wasn’t afraid to hold them. Well…ok…I was a little creeped out by them, but I would hold them.
  84. I love lava lamps. I have a pink one that sits on the counter where I can see it from my desk when I work. I turn it on every single day, and I love looking at it.
  85. I love most anything chocolate, but I hate cotton candy. I’ve always hated cotton candy. Yuck!
  86. I am likely to spend way too much money if left unattended in a book store.
  87. I love tote bags. I have lots of them, but I still buy them whenever I see one that I really like. It’s an addiction.
  88. I love to take photos–especially of my kids and our pets. I take lots and lots of photos.
  89. I used to think my grandparents were kind of wacky for taking so many supplements. Now I take lots of supplements. And my grandparents don’t seem so wacky any more. 😉
  90. My husband and I started dating when we were both 16. In all the years since then, we’ve never broken up or separated.
  91. I’m not a great housekeeper. I would like to be, but I’m not.
  92. I started keeping a planner (calendar but with more space to make notes and write down more details, etc.) when I was in high school. I still keep one to this day.
  93. I don’t like paying bills or being responsible for money. My husband does most of that. I probably should do more of it myself, but I don’t.
  94. I try not to drink too many carbonated drinks, but I love Peach Sunkist, Peach Nehi, and Sprite. I used to love Coke, but I can no longer have caffeine. I can live without the caffeine, but I love carbonation!
  95. I still read to my kids even though they are 19, 18, and 12. It’s something we enjoy doing together.
  96. I still don’t know how to knit. But I still plan to learn!
  97. I’ve only ever cut my hair really short once that I can remember. I didn’t like it at all. My hair is always at least shoulder-length and sometimes longer.
  98. I am afraid to go outside alone at night.
  99. I don’t like writing with pens. I only use a pen when I absolutely have to (like when I’m signing a check).
  100. I love to listen to wind chimes–especially on blustery days.

Plus a few extras:

  1. I keep my toenails painted year round.
  2. For years I didn’t have any close IRL friends because I was so busy taking care of my children. I’m blessed to have several wonderful IRL friends now, and we get together about once a week. They keep me sane.
  3. I live close (about 20 minutes away) to my parents and both of my sisters. We get together (along with our families) often, and I’m blessed to live so near them!
  4. I’m the queen of post-it notes. I stick them on my microwave to help me remember things.
  5. I love to watch fire flies in the spring. I also love daffodils and spider lillies.
  6. I love to go inner tubing on the river during the summer.
  7. I don’t like for my hands to be dirty.
  8. I could eat chocolate every day all day long and not get tired of it.
  9. I love playing board games and card games.
  10. I enjoy having company come over, but I don’t do it often enough.

As I looked back over my previous “100 Things About Me” post and this one, I realized that there are several things I mentioned then that I mentioned again in this post. 🙂 But there were a lot of “new” things I mentioned in this one, so I hope you have fun and learn some new things about me.

Don’t forget to leave your link in the comments so I can read your “100 Things About Me” posts too!
